The Farms

Land Preparation and Planting

This stage involves preparing the land for establishing the white pepper plantation. Clearing the land of any weeds, trees, or vegetation is done first. The soil is then prepared by tilling, removing rocks or debris, and leveling the ground.
White pepper is typically grown on support structures, such as poles or trellises, which are installed during this stage. Once the land is ready, the pepper vines or cuttings are planted, usually at the base of the support structures.

Vine Management and Maintenance

After planting, the focus shifts to vine management and maintenance. This stage includes activities such as providing adequate support for the pepper vines as they grow, training and pruning the vines to ensure proper growth and development, and controlling pests and diseases that can affect the plants.

Regular watering and irrigation are necessary to maintain optimal soil moisture levels. Weeding is also done to minimize competition for nutrients and resources. Additionally, fertilizers may be applied to promote healthy growth and maximize yield.

The Harvest

Harvesting and Processing

The final stage involves the harvesting and processing of white pepper. The pepper berries are typically harvested when they are fully ripe, which is indicated by their red color. Harvesting is done manually by plucking the berries or cutting the pepper spikes. After harvesting, the berries are soaked in water for a few days to ferment, which facilitates the removal of the outer skin or pericarp. The fermented berries are then scrubbed or rubbed to separate the outer skin, revealing the white pepper within.

Finally, the white pepper is dried either in the sun or using drying machines until it reaches the desired moisture content. The dried white pepper is then sorted, graded, and packaged for sale.

It is important to note that establishing and maintaining a white pepper plantation requires careful attention to detail and adherence to specific cultivation practices to ensure high-quality pepper production.
